The third of seven siblings and born in Koko, Nigeria, Mason migrated to the United States in 1987, where he obtained a Bachelors degree from the University of Texas at Austin (The Texas Longhorns) in May 2004, a Master of Science degree in Public Policy and Management from the prestigious Heinz School at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2006, and a Master of Science in Accounting from the "Accounting Powerhouse"-The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, in March 2020. His passion to raise awareness about the devastating impact sickle cell is having on the West African region stems from personal experiences of 2 family members suffering from this dangerous but often ignored disease. Many cases of Sickle cell are now curable with the new gene therapy treatment recently introduced.
